Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Men’s Shelter of Charlotte! Sheltering and providing services for nearly 2,000 men a year isn’t easy and we rely on compassionate individuals and groups to serve and be of support to our guests to help them on the journey to ending their homelessness.

 Before Volunteering

  • All volunteers must be scheduled – important for us to know you are coming!
  • Court-ordered community service hours must be coordinated by emailing our Kitchen Manager. No phone calls please.
  • Youth under the age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Group Opportunities

Meal Brigade

It’s hard to get through the day when you’re experiencing homelessness, and it’s even harder to do so when you are hungry. Join our meal brigade and bring and/or serve a meal for our shelter guests! This is a great group opportunity for 6-8 individuals!

Group Activities

Have a group that wants to provide support to our guests? Consider a group activity that our guests find useful and enjoyable! We are looking for ways to incorporate group activities into our work to supplement our housing and employment programs, so you might be the answer. This opportunity is great for youth groups as well.

Individual Opportunities

Housing and Employment Resource Center (HERC) Navigator

If you are seeking an experience that’s relational with our guests AND hits at the heart of our programs to help guests build income and connect to housing, the Housing and Employment Resource Center (HERC) Navigator might be the place for you. You will be stationed in the Tryon Shelter’s HERC Room where you will provide nurturing support, guidance, and direction for guests seeking assistance around employment, housing, and connecting to community resources.

Driving Opportunity Corps Volunteer
The Driving Opportunity Corps volunteer helps connect guests to critical supportive resources and partnerships by providing safe and reliable van transportation.  If you are dependable, great with people, and want to be one of the “moving pieces” to help end homelessness for our guests, this opportunity is for you!
Check-In Ambassador
If you’re seeking an opportunity to meet and talk with our shelter guests, the Check-In Ambassador position might be right for you. Stationed at the shelter’s front desk, you will be greeting guests and making sure they are checked into the shelter for the night.

Front Desk Ambassador

If you are seeking a deeper front desk opportunity, the Front Desk Ambassador is right for you! You will be the first person greeting shelter guests, volunteers, and visitors. Centrally located, you will be in prime position to welcome individuals to the shelter, answer the phone, assist with guest questions, and provide critical administrative support to shelter staff.

F3 Fitness Group

F3 (which stands for Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith) is a national network of free, peer-led workouts for men. F3 started a fitness group at the shelter (entitled “Fortitude”) as a way for guests to connect with physical fitness, form meaningful relationships with volunteers, and to bring people together from all walks of life. If you’re looking for a great work-out and engaging way to connect with a diverse community of men, this is for you!
