Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Men’s Shelter of Charlotte! Sheltering and providing services for nearly 2,000 men a year isn’t easy and we rely on compassionate individuals and groups to serve and be of support to our guests to help them on the journey to ending their homelessness.
All on-site volunteer opportunities are temporarily suspended. Please continue to check back for additional updates on volunteering.
We currently have multiple off-site volunteer opportunities available and our need is great! Find opportunities and sign up here (note, you will be redirected to an Urban Ministry Center webpage until our new website is up and running!)
- All volunteers must be scheduled – important for us to know you are coming!
- Court-ordered community service hours must be coordinated by emailing our Kitchen Manager. No phone calls please.
- Youth under the age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
It’s hard to get through the day when you’re experiencing homelessness, and it’s even harder to do so when you are hungry. Join our meal brigade and bring and/or serve a meal for our shelter guests! This is a great group opportunity for 6-8 individuals! Learn more about Meal Brigade!
Social Activities are a fun way to engage with our guests as they walk on their path out of homelessness. These can include coffee and pastries, trail mix bar, ice cream socials, or board games and snacks. Learn more about Social Activities. Learn more about Social Activities!
Groups can register for opportunities online. After indicating your area of interest, you will either be prompted to self-register or a staff member will be in touch with you for next steps!
Housing and Employment Resource Center (HERC) Navigator
If you are seeking an experience that’s relational with our guests AND hits at the heart of our programs to help guests build income and connect to housing, the Housing and Employment Resource Center (HERC) Navigator might be the place for you. You will be stationed in the Tryon Shelter’s HERC Room where you will provide nurturing support, guidance, and direction for guests seeking assistance around employment, housing, and connecting to community resources.
Front Desk Ambassador
If you are seeking a deeper front desk opportunity, the Front Desk Ambassador is right for you! You will be the first person greeting shelter guests, volunteers, and visitors. Centrally located, you will be in prime position to welcome individuals to the shelter, answer the phone, assist with guest questions, and provide critical administrative support to shelter staff.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! All individuals must first attend an orientation session. Please sign up for an upcoming orientation online.
F3 Fitness Group
F3 (which stands for Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith) is a national network of free, peer-led workouts for men. F3 started a fitness group at the shelter (entitled “Fortitude”) as a way for guests to connect with physical fitness, form meaningful relationships with volunteers, and to bring people together from all walks of life. If you’re looking for a great work-out and engaging way to connect with a diverse community of men, this is for you!
