Kindness
In March, the staff at Men’s Shelter of Charlotte participated in a photo contest called March Kindness. The concept was to capture a co-worker during a random act of kindness. The contest winner received a prize and was asked to be my guest blogger to share their photo. Mr. James Brown is one of our awesome shelter staff and submitted the winning photo. So this week I’m turning over my space to Mr. Brown…
This Guest arrived at the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte earlier that day with his Godfather. It was told that he went blind about a month prior to coming to the shelter. He was having a hard time adjusting to his condition. It appeared that his whole world was crumbling down around him. The Shelter Director took the liberty of showing him around the shelter while he used his cane feeling for his way; area by area, wall by wall, and door by door. This exercise captured my heart, just to see the compassion and empathy she was showing this Guest. This let me know how important and how far and beyond the shelter staff will go to make our Guests feel comfortable, welcome, and safe during their stay here at the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte.
