God, Marriage, & Lobster

Did this week’s heading catch your attention?  Why in the world would I title this week’s blog God, Marriage, & Lobster?  Well, I’ve often spoken about the importance of a support system for those we serve at the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte (MSC).  To be happy, healthy, and successful in life (however you choose to define success), we all need a personal support system because we will face challenges in life that we cannot possible overcome alone.  I’m a blessed man because God has placed me at the Men’s Shelter with the purpose of helping others rebuild their own support systems. I’m also blessed because my own support system is growing – Molly and I are getting married in less than 2 weeks.  By now you’ve gotten the God and Marriage parts to my blog, but what about Lobster?  You see, for the next couple of weeks I’ll be on vacation with my new bride travelling up north into lobster country.  So, you won’t receive my blog for the next couple of weeks, but please know that our incredible team at MSC will be hard at work in my absence helping as many men as possible rebuild their own support systems – and that’s a true blessing!

In September 2008 I became the Executive Director of the Men's Shelter of Charlotte. I've spent almost 15 years working to end homelessness in North Carolina. After working with homeless and runaway youth in Raleigh, I served as the Director of the South Wilmington Street Center (men's shelter) in Wake County and then worked on Orange County's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. I am a former board chair for the North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness and former chair of the Homeless Services Network in Charlotte. In 2014 I served as the partner agency representative on the United Way Central Carolinas board of directors.
